In 2000, HEGER was hired by Metro Machine in Norfolk, Virginia to design “fan tail support” towers for dry docking US Navy CG and DDG class vessels. The purpose of the fantail support towers were to extend the length of keel blocking under the vessel to reduce the maximum load per foot to within the capacity of the dry dock.
A number of vessels have utilized the fantail support towers.
