Dry Dock No. 3, originally constructed in the early 1900s, is used for docking some of the largest US Navy vessels. In 2012, HEGER was part of a teaming arrangement hired to modernize and improve the facility.

As part of the project, HEGER was responsible for naval architecture aspects of the floating gate design including stability and draft requirements. HEGER assisted in the development of projects drawings, calculations, specification, and updates to the Facility Certification Report.

The new gate was constructed by STEEL AMERICAN in Norfolk, Virginia and delivered to Norfolk, Virginia where it continues to operate successfully.
